ABOUT SORAYA

THE ARTIST AND HER WORK

Artist, Soraya Bradley was born in Tumby Bay a small coastal town in the south of Australia. Her childhood and family in New Zealand was dominated by the impact of religion and influence of her Mother’s fourteen year battle with breast cancer. Although passionate about any creativity, it seemed just a childhood dream, like her sister’s lolly shop or her brother’s skateboarding stunt career.

Having raised a child, while completing a teacher degree. It was working both in retail and as an interior designer that propagated the choice or supplied the space to make it. Soraya now allowed herself to formally be a full time Artist.

Formal Art training was a logical step and again Soraya worked and studied. Focused and hungry to explore the world outside the bubble. Conscious that there is undoubtedly a student product from formal training. Soraya entered into it as part of an infinite resource continuing to paint and study, no less, after graduation. Study of Art History, mythology, astrology and conventional history co-inside with the Christian history of her childhood and the life around her today.

Soraya now works between her interests of expression on canvas and a vast ongoing quest to examine past and present social controls. Preoccupied with the effect these have upon the evolution of the individual. She is passionate in expression through eye neither controlled by mind or doctrine. Her major influence is impact. Best expressed by Philip Clairmont “Art that has no humanity or concern means nothing to me”. Although she is reluctant to do commissions, regardless of the motivation in the work, the impact on the viewer is a step towards the goal of the masterpiece...

Canvas is literally the delicate thread or raging war between technical ability and vision. Her work, under construction is never free of scrutiny. At any time a piece can fall fowl of this and be unpicked and a fresh canvas applied. Each image evolves in its own unique individual way with no definite measure of time or effort. This confusion is best illustrated in that a large piece can demand over a hundred hours, the same amount of time as a smaller work.

From 2003, Soraya has painted full time, both selling and exhibiting. Her work is treasured by private collectors both nationally and internationally. ©
