ABOUT SORAYA
ARTIST PROFILE
Soraya Bradley is a full time Australian born artist working in rural Horowhenua on the west coast of New Zealand. Her work in oils on canvas, gather together interests in the human condition, form, fashion, design, story and tradition.
Soraya’s style of work is largely a modern interpretation realism of previous centuries. She is a self taught artist. Through ongoing research, she experiments with traditional painting techniques from the Renaissance to nineteenth century academic painting methods. She is inspired by modern masters including Nelson Shanks, Odd Nerdrum and Andrew Wyeth.
Soraya is far too timid to be one to create work to shock. Her work instead strives to combine technical proficiency with emotional power. This in turn can create an intimacy with the work which is unexpected. Expression on canvas is a vast ongoing quest to examine past and present social controls. Preoccupied with the effect these have upon the individual. She is passionate in expression through eye neither controlled by mind or doctrine.
Soraya has studied and hold a diploma of art and creativity with honours, a diploma of teaching and a diploma of interior design. Soraya has had solo exhibitions at Ashton Grove and Quimzy Gallery in Wellington, as well as numerous exhibitions in her local Kapiti/Horowhenua region.
Her work is held in private collections, nationally and internationally. Images have been selected for publications. A body of work is viewable at “Taylor Jensens Fine Art”, on her website or by appointment. ©
