"Bergere" is part of a collection called "Beyond Sight" painted in 2009. The collection was inspired by romanticism, minimalist neutrals in fashion design and early Laura Ashley prints. I wanted to retain the themes of my work, but to deconstruct it somehow, striping it to its essence.
 
"Bergere" is one of my favourites of this collection, the figure's soft, yet unwavering stare is complemented beautifully by the curious sheep and impressionist setting. I adore the combination of oils used as watercolour and the textural detail of the clothing. While the soft earthy tones evoke a sense of nostalgia and comfort.
